The X Quarterly is a business communication-focused publication designed, written and produced by Multiple, a strategic design firm in Chicago, IL.
The X Quarterly “Fun” issue explores the idea of what it means to have fun. The cover greets you with a timeless comic trope: the banana peel; and its contents are printed digitally on Mohawk Superfine Smooth.
What's fun? Multiple reached out to their network and asked this one question. Most of the answers were unsurprising, relatable, and generally fun-sounding. According to them, some were a little too honest for print or polite company — anonymity can reveal strange truths.
As you turn the oversized pages revealing facts, figures and photography all associated with the idea of fun, it's hard not to notice the lush tactility of the paper.
With high-end inkjet, the print quality is incredibly consistent so the only real variable is paper surface. Because Mohawk Superfine is consistent on both sides throughout the run, the crossovers and color consistency are perfect.
The Multiple team tested a variety of papers during the process of producing this issue of the X Quarterly, but arrived at Mohawk Superfine for the way it accentuated the publication’s design elements. The sheets, folded and nested together, are unbound.
